Stockport East Neighbourhood Team Secure Shoplifting Charges |
||
|
Good afternoon Resident,
A prolific shoplifter linked to a series of offences across Hazel Grove has been charged following a detailed investigation by the East Stockport Neighbourhood Team.
Oliver Burke (02/10/1972), of No Fixed Abode, has been charged with nine counts of theft from shop and one count of criminal damage.
He was remanded to appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates' Court on 31 August 2026. He has now been released on conditional bail and is due to appear before the courts again on the 24th of November 2026.
The charges relate to an extensive review and investigation of a number of shoplifting offences that had previously been reported across retail premises throughout the Hazel Grove area. Through persistent investigation work and evidence gathering, officers were able to identify a suspect linked to nine separate shop theft incidents committed between 4 April 2026 and 18 June 2026. One of the offences also involved criminal damage after a shop door was kicked and damaged during the incident.
A Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) application will now be pursued by your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. If granted by the court, the order will include prohibitions designed to prevent further offending and will seek to ban Burke from entering the retail premises he specifically targeted during these offences.
Shoplifting has a real impact on local businesses and their staff, so I'm pleased we've been able to secure these charges. We'd encourage retailers to keep reporting offences to us, as every report helps build the bigger picture.
This outcome reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses and tackling crime that affects our communities.
Thank you for your continued support.
